Meet the Team
Want to know who the mystery people are behind the scenes here at AV Science? Well, here we are. Bringing world peace and change to the world one surround sound system at a time!
Alan Gouger: The man behind the curtain. Alan Gouger is the President and CEO of AV Science. On the forum, you can find him as Alan Gouger.
Jason Turk, Sales: Jason started in the A/V industry back in 1990 where he worked for a chain department store that had a small A/V department. From there he moved up to a dedicated A/V retailer, the largest in the Rochester, NY area. While there, he was the top salesman for multiple years running. In 1997 he began working for A/V Science as their head installer, where he further developed his skills in projectors, dedicated theaters, and whole house audio and video distribution. In late 2000 he transitioned into another position with A/V Science and became their head salesman, which he continues in that roll today. Jason is ISF certified and well versed in just about every piece of electronics made to date. His enthusiasm stems from both his knowledge of this industry, as well as his love for all things electronic. On the forum, you can find him as: Jason Turk

Laurie Elkin, Controller: My name is Laurie Elkin and I started working for AV Science in the latter part of 2003 and I handle all the accounting functions for the company. When I first started working here I didn’t know anything about home theater, but over the years I have absorbed enough information to converse intelligently with my vendors and most of our customers.
The best part about working here is that, thanks to Alan, I met my beloved husband on the AVS Home Theater Cruise in 2004 for which I will always be grateful. I also have two grown sons of whom I am extremely proud and my hobbies include gardening, doing my own redecorating and cooking.

Barbara Coakley, Sales: My name is Barbara Coakley, but most people call me Bobbi, and I have had a career in sales for many years. I first was introduced to home theater when I went to a friends house to watch a movie who had a designated theater, and I was hooked. I was so impressed with their set up that I started asking all sorts of questions. My friend directed me to the AVS Forum where I began reading and learning about A/V equipment.
When I felt I was ready, I went to AV Science looking for a career change, and here I am today. I really enjoy being on the cutting edge of new products as they come available and helping my customers build the theater room that they love and can afford.

Daniel Hutnicki, Sales: My name is Daniel and I have been involved in home theater for about 13 years. My first system was a Pro-logic Denon receiver with B&W book shelf speakers along with a Pioneer Laserdisc player. My video system was only a 27 inch Mitsubishi television. This of course led me to be a forum member fan and wound up working with AV Science for almost ten years. Its been a great experience and I think I have learned as much from the forum members as I have from industry itself. My theater today is only slightly more advanced than my old Mitsubishi TV. I currently use a JVC projector with an anamorphic lens that is shown on a 120 wide scope screen. I have Atlantic Technology 8200 speakers with a Audiocontrol AVR-1 receiver. Of course I no longer have the Laserdisc player but I do use Blu-Ray. I miss my Laserdisc player. People were always freaked out when they saw the huge laserdisc!

Cindy Gerstner, Shipping and Receiving: Since July of 2008, I have been employed as the Shipping and Receiving Manager at AV Science, Inc. My job duties mainly consist of ensuring that everything that comes through this office will ultimately end up in the correct destination; whether the product goes into stock or to your front door, I make sure that it gets there as efficiently as possible. Other job duties are handling the RMAs, organizing inventory and clerical work.
In the short time that I have been here, I have learned quite a bit about Residential/Commercial Theaters, and how they operate. It fascinates me to know that there are so many people out there who are interested in this hobby, if you will. As I have worked here I have seen how “home theater” is used in many ways, and how it will continue to be used for many years to come. It is an ever growing, ever expanding industry with plenty of room for innovation.
